16 November 2011

Happy Birthday. Took some time off from work and rode down Legacy and back. A couple trips ago, down Legacy and the Chevron Mile, I noticed that new pavement had been laid more to the south. So today I decided to ride it to the end. Less than 0.2 miles it stopped. Looks like they are going to lay a boardwalk path so had to turn around.

Woke up in Escalante Utah this morning and after visiting with a gentleman from Maine, he convinced me to ride my bike down the Burr Trail. Drove to Boulder, Utah across the "hogs back." Stopped just the beginning of the Burr trail and started riding. Had my GPS with me and noticed I had dropped over 1000 feet in elevation in about 5.5 miles and it just kept going down. Turned around and rode back UP to the car. The Burr trail has a canyon called the "long canyon" which would absolutely be wonderful to ride on a bike. Beautiful day

20 August 2011

The annual "Bike the Bear" with the BSA. Woke up at the cabin right at 6am with a loud crack of Thounder followed by lots more. I watched lightning hit the ground, lake, buildings, I knew I'd see a fire start somewhere before it was all over. But nope, just lots of it. The show ended at 7:00 am and so got ready and left. We all met and began the ride at the Garden City LDS Church parking lot. It was about 8 am when I actually left. Rode to Laketown, turned right into Laketown and around a 10 mile "loop" before returning to the main highway and heading up the east side of the lake. Rode about 10 miles north before doing a "U" turn and returning back south to Laketown and then back up the highway to Garden City. Did it in 4hours and 24 minutes. Average speed was 11.3 MPH.

After the ward party in Farmington, drove to Legacy and rode down it. It was a late start so went I got to the Centerville underpass I went straight instead of staying on Legacy. There is a newer trail called Prospector's Trail which goes down the old railroad trail. The sign says it is 1.6 Miles long. It was pitch black by the time I got to the end. Turned around and rode back to Farmington Train station.

For Mutual tonight we went bike riding down Legacy. Took 4 Deacons and Layne Kap. I stayed back with Justice G while the others tried to go as far as they could in 25 Minutes before turning around. Justice and I only made it to the I-15 underpass before turning around. I was disappointed but he had just got back from football practice and hadn't had anything to eat since noon :(

Pedaled the first 12.6 miles in 42 minutes. Average speed was 17.7 MPH. On the way back to Farmington I went 17.4 MPH. Overall it took less then 1.5 hours to go the distance. Worked at Camp Browning today on the remodeling of the bathrooms. Had to stop at Home Depot for plumbing parts. Took the new mountain bike to Legacy Parkway and rode the trail. Started riding at 9:20 pm. Almost dark. Make it 11.5 miles and the NSL trail head in 40 minutes. The new bike is fast also. I didn't go to the end of Legacy cause it was dark and that part of the trail has so many curves. Got back to Farmington and loaded up and driving home by 10:40 pm. Very nice and quiet ride

25 June 2011

Okay for Father's Day, Carrie and Grant bought me a new amazing mountain bike. Very Smooth ride and it has back brakes too. The old one didn't after I took them off. Went to the Bear Lake Cabin this weekend to work on the tile floor. Saturday afternoon, while the thin set dried, I went on my first ride with the new bike. Started in Laketown and rode the east side of the lake. Went about 11 miles and heard a high pitch buzzing noise. Turned around and looked along the road and saw a snake, and yep only one kind makes that kind of noise. By the time I had stopped I was 20 feet away and it was coiled up. With a couple well placed rocks I had injured it and itg was heading for cover. A few more close throws and it was headed to the next life. There is no good reasons to keep a rattler alive. Rode the bike another little while and turned around and headed back to Laketown. Funny thing is about the place I had killed the snake, now there was a 15-16 year old sitting in the sagebush along the road talking on her phone. She couldn't have been 300 feet from the dead rattler :/

27 April 2011

Wow I really need to get excited and ride my bike more. I'm so out of shape. Rode my mountain bike with one solid rubber tire and one normal tube down legacy and back. Barely made it to where the new Jordon River Trail begins. It took about 2 hours and 10 minutes too. The wind was one reason it took so long, the other is I'm so out of practice (shape).

11 April 2011

I've got to get out and exercise more. Went today to Farmington and rode Legacy. It was clear with high clouds when I started but quickly turned cloudy and breezy. Had to keep convincing me that I could do the length today. By the time I made it to No Salt Lake, I was ready to go more. In fact the trail had been extended south. I rode for a while and couldn't see the end of new pavement but was getting tired. Rode baqck to Farmington and can see now that my miles for the day equals to my privious total for the year. Painted in Roy all morning then decided to revisit the wonderful spot along the weber river. Drove to Riverdale, parked in the old parking lot and rode north. Stopped to write on the log then north another 1/4 mile but the river has swelled over the banks and across the bike path. Before I got the bike under control, I was up to my pants pockets in the river. Burrr. Got turned around and headed south to the end of the trail and then a little until the path was covered with the river again. Had to return with only a short ride today. . Today's Miles - 8.7 Miles . 25 March 2011

Okay it's Spring time and I need to get back in the saddle. Drove to St George on 23 March and yesterday actually got out and rode the "Mayor's Loop" down by the river. Met a couple out riding their bikes, John Swan, from Twin Falls. I'd like to get to know them better. Maybe in a couple years. Couldn't begin to write how many connections we have with them after just 10 minutes on the trail. Who Knows?
